Overview
The City of Janesville provides weekly curbside trash and recycling collection. Recycling is single-stream with no sorting required. Yard waste collection runs seasonally from April through November. Fall leaf collection operates on a rotating schedule through city neighborhoods. The Rock County Landfill is available for items that cannot be collected curbside.
Before you begin

Check your collection day using the address lookup tool on the City website.

Place your trash cart at the curb by 6 AM on your scheduled pickup day with the lid fully closed.

Recycle paper, flattened cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, and metal cans. No plastic bags or styrofoam.

For yard waste, use 30-gallon paper bags or labeled containers (April through November).

Frequently asked questions
What can I put in my recycling cart?
Paper, flattened cardboard, plastic bottles and containers (#1 and #2), glass bottles and jars, and metal cans. Do not include plastic bags, styrofoam, food waste, or electronics.
When is leaf collection?
Curbside leaf collection runs from mid-October through late November. Crews rotate through city neighborhoods on a published schedule. Rake loose leaves to the curb, not into the street.
What happens on holidays?
There is no collection on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Collection shifts to the following day.
